Is the Chattanooga Housing Market Reflective of the US Housing Market?

The last few months I've been able to speak with a lot of potential buyers who found their way to my site. Some are ready to go, others love to look but are hesitant with worry and fear that this is not the right time to buy. They hear the news from national media about the looming housing crisis and tell me now is not the time.
I'm here to give you my own reflection on the Chattanooga market, not the US market and will use the data provided below to show that just because home prices are plummeting in major cities like San Francisco and New York, it doesn't mean locally we have experienced or will experience a significant drop in prices in the next year.
But don't take my word for it. Let's look at our first item below.

Chattanooga Historic Districts

Battery Place
Anyone familiar with the history of Chattanooga knows that downtown was notorious for flooding. While this city was developing, the rocky bluffs by the Tennessee river provided high ground that protected wealthy residents from the flooding and disease outbreaks plaguing the town. Today, this area is known as Battery Place, adjacent to the popular Bluff View Art District, and scores high for anyone seeking a walkable neighborhood. The Tennessee Riverwalk runs through this area and connects pedestrians and cyclists to even more areas of Chattanooga. Many of the historic homes are nestled away from the tourists and local traffic, often offering a gorgeous waterfront view of the North Shore. Like the Southside, many big box stores will often require a short drive to neighboring areas of the city. Locally Owned Chattanooga Restaurants

Cajun Food 
Blue Orleans: This New Orleans-inspired restaurant is located on the Southside across from the Chattanooga Choo Choo. They also offer catering. The menu has several crawfish recipes, shrimp and grits, po boys, and several pasta options.

Vegan 
Plant Power Cafe & Juice Bar: This East Brainerd restaurant has an expansive vegan menu offering burgers, salads, and sandwiches. They also offer a kids’ menu, gluten-free options, and a dessert menu with cheesecakes, ice cream, brownies, and cookies. They also offer fruit smoothies in addition to cold-pressed juices.

Chicken
Champy’s: Their locally known fried chicken stems from a Mississippi Delta family recipe. The restaurant's made-to-order chicken has earned them a slew of accolades. They have a selection of salads, full plates with delicious sides, family-sized portions, and hot tamales.

Best Pizza in Chattanooga

     If you are new to the area and looking for pizza, Chattanooga has plenty of options. Aside from chain restaurants, the city also has a good selection of small businesses to support that offer fresh local ingredients and laid-back atmospheres.  

Lupi's
Best Locally Owned
This pizzeria was the first in the city to serve hand-tossed pizza. They have a partnership with the Flying Turtle Farm to ensure local meat and vegetables. Another convenient option is a take and bake pizza to enjoy at home. They have a take and bake option for you to enjoy at home. Aside from Downtown, they have locations in Hixson, East Brainerd, Cleveland, and Ooltewah.

Places to Visit in Chickamauga

     If you are looking for a quiet locale to call your home without being too far from the culture and hustle of Chattanooga, then Chickamauga may be an option for you as a home buyer. The town offers plenty of housing options—ranging from starter homes for first-time buyers to high-end equestrian farms. The downtown area is fairly walkable and offers family-friendly recreation. Chickamauga is also home to Gordon Lee High School, offering free tuition to anyone living within the town’s city limits.
